The White House on Monday condemned China’s “escalation, provocative and irresponsible actions in Taiwan.”
He emphasized that “China’s actions are inconsistent with our long-term goal of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” noting that “there is no need to escalate with China and we will keep channels of communication open with it.”
Earlier Monday, China announced it was holding “new military exercises in Taiwan.” The drill was expected to end on Sunday, but China said “Joint practical drills and drills in the sea and airspace around the island of Taiwan continue today.”
