The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that a total shutdown of Russian gas supplies will lead to fuel shortages in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and a drop in the gross domestic product of these countries by 6%.

The International Monetary Fund stated in its forecasts: “Possibility of a complete shutdown (of Russian gas) threatens gas shortages and rising prices and its impact on the economy in some countries of Central and Eastern Europe, such as Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, there is a risk of gas shortages of up to 40 %” and the fall in gross domestic product to 6%.

The fund urged EU countries to look for alternatives to Russian gas and stated that the impact of phasing out Russian gas could be reduced by looking for alternatives and said: supplies.”
