There will be DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Nintendo still needs to make a formal announcement on the much-anticipated Breath of the Wild 2’s inclusion of downloadable content. Yet, it is stated on the game’s official website.

On the Tears of the Kingdom website, the small paragraph near the bottom contains the following message: “Use of DLC requires the full version of the game. Separately offered.”

The lack of information concerning DLC plans is not surprising, given how much information Nintendo withheld about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom before the game’s release.

After the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, extra content was introduced in two waves thanks to a paid Expansion Pass. The Champion’s Ballad DLC received new narrative content with the latter bundle. The Hero’s Path adventure tracking system, the combat-focused Master Trials, and a motorbike for Link were all included in the Expansion Pass.

The pattern has been continued by all subsequent major Nintendo releases, including waves of Extra content that arrive in stages over a year after the game’s initial release.

Recent games like Splatoon 3 and Fire Emblem Engage include more than two waves. It’s likely that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, one of the Switch’s most eagerly awaited games, will do the same.

On May 12, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be available for the Nintendo Switch.
