Washington welcomes EU agreement to set ceiling on Russian oil prices

White House spokesman John Kirby said the United States welcomes the EU’s agreement to set a price ceiling for Russian oil.

“We have seen the messages and welcome the progress made,” Kirby said, declining to comment on details, noting that all agreements reached will be officially announced by the European Union.

“We are in favor of limiting prices,” he added.

Poland’s representative to the European Union, Andrzej Sadus, told reporters today, Friday, that “Poland has agreed to a compromise with the European Union on a ceiling on the price of Russian oil at $60 per barrel, which will allow the European Union to formally ratify this decision over the weekend.”

The European Union is expected to officially announce its decision next Sunday.
