The US State Department said Washington would welcome an agreement to export Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea, which is expected to be announced Friday in Istanbul.
“We would welcome such an agreement. We appreciate the solid work done by the UN Secretary General and the work of our Turkish allies,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a news conference on Thursday.
He added that the US is coordinating with Turkey, Ukraine and the UN regarding grain export talks and continues to work with allies to ensure implementation of the agreement.
It is worth noting that the office of UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the arrival of the Secretary General in Istanbul on Thursday, where he is expected to announce an agreement on the export of grain from Ukraine through the Black Sea, following a week of negotiations between the delegations of Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN.
