The US State Department said that Washington will continue to work with Moscow to resume mutual inspections of military facilities under the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START-3).
“We will continue to work with Russia through diplomatic channels to resume inspections,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
He added that the sanctions against Russia imposed by the United States are not considered an obstacle to the visits of experts from Russia to American facilities for the purpose of verification and screening under START-3.
He stressed that “the United States is committed to the implementation of the START-3 Treaty”, adding: “We must work together to reduce the risks of an arms race and nuclear escalation.”
He pointed out that the United States continues non-public contacts within the framework of the agreement, noting that the parties exchange information in this area.
