Washington: we are ready for difficult decisions to release our citizens detained abroad

The US State Department said the US is prepared to make “difficult decisions” to free its citizens detained abroad.

“We are committed to doing everything we can to secure the release of American citizens who are being held hostage or unjustly detained in other countries,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said Tuesday at a news conference.

“This includes making difficult decisions,” he added.

As an example, Price cited the recovery of American Trevor Reid, who was detained in Russia on charges of assaulting police officers in 2019 and released in exchange for the release of Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who has been in custody since 2010, from an American prison. for drug smuggling.
