US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm confirmed that the United States is following developments in Ukraine with interest in the context of modernizing and developing its nuclear capability.
“The National Nuclear Security Administration is focused on building a safe and effective arsenal,” Granholm said at a press conference on Monday.
“All plans for modernization are aimed at this. We are following this with great interest,” she added.
This was in response to a question whether there had been any change in the management of the US nuclear arsenal in the wake of the events in Ukraine.
Granholm confirmed that the Department of Energy is in contact with the Pentagon and that experts from the National Nuclear Security Administration are focused on making the US arsenal “safe, secure and efficient.”
