Washington: We are concerned about the violence in the West Bank

Barbara Leaf, Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs, confirmed that Washington is working to ensure continued security cooperation between Israel and Palestine amid escalating violence in the West Bank.

Lev emphasized in a press briefing that “the United States is deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation,” noting that “security coordination between Israel and the Palestinian Authority can help curb the violence, and economic improvements for the Palestinians are also important.”

She stressed that “the United States is working to advance such steps,” noting “the need to give Palestinians access to fourth-generation 4G Internet service and open the Allenby 24-hour crossing between the West Bank and Jordan.”

Asked about the status of negotiations to demarcate the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon, Lev said “there is progress and both sides are constructively involved.”
