US State Department spokesman Ned Price stressed that Washington is counting on the resumption of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline for Russian gas to Europe, which can guarantee Europe’s energy security in the short term.
“Nord Stream 1 will be an important component of that,” Price said at a press conference when asked if he thought Nord Stream 1 would help replenish Europe’s stocks for ongoing contracts.
Price added that in the short term and until Europe reduces its dependence on Russian energy, “the resumption of gas transportation will allow Germany and other countries of the continent to replenish their reserves, increasing energy security and sustainability.”
