Washington calls on Moscow to use its influence and stop the escalation between Azerbaijan and Armenia

US State Department spokesman Ned Price urged Moscow to use its great influence in Armenia and Azerbaijan and mediate between them to stop the escalation, stressing that escalation is not in Russia’s interests.

“There is no doubt that the escalation of hostilities or direct violence between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not in the interests of Russia. Nobody is interested in this,” Price said.

He added: “There is also no doubt that Russia has significant influence over both Armenia and Azerbaijan. We called on Russia to use this influence in a way that promotes a broader cessation of hostilities and easing tensions.”

And the Elysee Palace reported that French President Emmanuel Macron called in telephone conversations with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to return to commitment to a ceasefire between Baku and Yerevan.
