Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin called for an amendment to Russian laws that would prevent any activity of the International Criminal Court on Russian territory and would punish everyone who helps him.
Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel: “It is necessary to make changes to the laws that prevent any activity of the International Criminal Court on the territory of our country, and to hold accountable all those who support its work and assist it.”
Volodin emphasized the importance of concluding bilateral agreements with friendly countries, regarding mutual refusal to cooperate with this court and non-assistance to it.
Volodin stressed that the Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has the right to protect Russian citizens when unconstitutional decisions are made by some international structures and institutions.
Volodin noted that in 2002 the United States passed a law prohibiting the arrest or detention of any American citizen or ally by order of the International Criminal Court. Washington can intervene militarily if the US military, officials and politicians are in the dock.
He noted that the Russian Constitution provides for the priority of national legislation over international legislation.
Earlier, the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction Russia does not recognize, issued a warrant for the “arrest” of Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova Belova.
