Vershinin: Russia does not interfere with the export of Ukrainian grain

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin denied that Russia had placed any obstacles to grain exports from Ukraine through the Black Sea.

Commenting on the discussion of Ukrainian grain exports in Istanbul between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN, Vershinin said: “The Russian Foreign Ministry is represented at the Istanbul meeting along with some other bodies. ensure the transportation of Ukrainian wheat by sea”.

He continued, “From our point of view, there should be no problem with that. We have stated at the highest level that there is no impediment to the transfer from our side.”

He added: “We need to start by clearing the ports, and that should be done by those who planted the mines. I want to remind you that it was the Ukrainian side that planted mines in the ports.”

Following the meeting of representatives of the relevant parties in Istanbul on the export of Ukrainian grain, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that a “significant step” had been taken towards resolving the issue.
