According to Agence France-Presse, citing human rights activists, Venezuelan authorities have sentenced a group of officers who rebelled during the 2019 protests to prison terms of up to 16 years.
Rebellion leader Luis Bandres has been sentenced to 15 years and 9 months in prison, said Alfredo Romero, director of the Foro Pinal human rights organization.
Other members of the group were sentenced to 7 years and 9 months in prison.
Romero pointed out that the families of the accused filed complaints about the torture of prisoners, but the authorities did not consider or investigate them.
Bandres went on a hunger strike earlier in the year to protest the delay in his trial, but ended it a few days later.
