US State Department spokesman Ned Price urged Russia to agree to an extension of the grain deal.
“We continue to urge Russia to agree to an extension that will ultimately expand the grain initiative,” Price said.
He pointed out that the US authorities see no reason to refuse such a step.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov earlier in the day assured his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu that Russia would not renew the Istanbul deal on Ukrainian grain exports if it did not take into account the interests of Russian grain and fertilizer producers.
