Rudy Giuliani, former lawyer for former US President Donald Trump, was beaten by a New York supermarket worker.
Giuliani told the newspaper New York Post: “Suddenly, I felt a blow to my back. I don’t know if they helped me not to fall, but I almost fell.. I feel this terrible pain in my back.”
According to him, the assailant described him as a “scumbag” and “one of those who are ready to kill women,” probably referring to the recent decision of the US Supreme Court that overturned guarantees for the right to abortion.
Giuliani quoted the assailant as saying, “You think you’re saving children, but you’re going to kill women.”
On Friday, the Supreme Court overturned a nearly 50-year-old ruling that guaranteed the right to abortion at the federal level, which means that abortion is illegal in some US states.
Government agencies will have to make decisions about their own abortion laws. The controversy is occurring in many states where conservative Republicans are calling for a ban on abortion and Democrats are strongly opposed.
According to US media reports, with the abolition of this decision, abortion bans came into force in 6 states.
