US State Department: Iran is responsible for the security of Americans held in Evin prison

Earlier, a senior security official in a statement to IRNA on Saturday evening said that there had been riots and an argument between prisoners in the gang wing of Evin prison, which escalated into clashes with guards.

According to the security official, the bandits set fire to the prison warehouse with clothes, which led to a fire.

He added: “The security situation is now completely under control and firefighters are trying to control the fire.”

He stated that the elements involved in the incident were separated from other prisoners.

And video clips posted by activists and tweeters on social media on Saturday documented smoke rising from the Evin prison in the Iranian capital Tehran.
