US State Department approves missile deal "A spear" for Brazil

The U.S. Defense and Security Cooperation Agency announced that the State Department has approved a potential $74 million deal to sell Javelin anti-tank missiles to Brazil.

The agency said in a statement Tuesday that Brazilian authorities have ordered up to 222 Javelin missiles and 33 command and launch platforms.

“The eventual deal will help achieve U.S. foreign policy and development goals by enhancing the combat capabilities of an important partner in the region,” the statement said.

The US administration has notified Congress of its approval of the deal, and lawmakers will have to study the potential contract within 30 days.
