US police arrest 181 reproductive freedom protesters

US police announced the arrest of 181 people who protested in downtown Washington against the removal of constitutional guarantees for women’s right to abortion.

Reproductive freedom advocates blocked the street in the Supreme Court district, which a week ago allowed states to regulate abortion cases on their own, tantamount to outright banning the practice.

The Capitol Police, responsible for the security of the Supreme Court and the Capitol, tweeted: “We have arrested 181 people … to block the intersection of Constitution Street in the northeast and First Street in the northwest.”

The conservative-dominated Supreme Court has overturned constitutional guarantees for the right to terminate a pregnancy and allowed US states to regulate the practice themselves.

And half of the 50 states plan to ban or significantly restrict abortion in their territories.

Until now, US authorities have only been allowed to regulate abortions in the first and second trimester to protect the life of the mother.
