US Newspaper: Blinken resists call to declare himself Russia "sponsor of terrorism"

The New York Times reported that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken “resisted” congressional pressure to declare Russia a “state sponsor of terrorism.”

Blinken has been under pressure for weeks to officially declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism, but despite the emotional appeal of such a phrase, Blinken is resisting a move that could force him to impose sanctions on US allies doing business with Russia. .

According to the publication, this initiative was fully supported by the US Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

Earlier, the White House did not answer whether US President Joe Biden agreed to call on Russia to be declared a “state sponsor of terrorism.”

For his part, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the Kremlin is extremely negative about the consequences that will affect Russian-American relations if Russia is declared a “sponsor of terrorism” by the state. As for the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, she said that Moscow considers such statements by Washington to be a “propaganda movement”, and stressed that the Russian side will not leave such measures unanswered.
