US jobless claims on the rise

The U.S. Department of Labor said initial jobless claims in the U.S. rose by 14,000 in the week ended Aug. 6.

Jobless claims rose to 262,000, according to data from the US Department of Labor released Thursday.

Analysts polled by the DailyFX portal expected an increase in the number of requests compared to the original to 263 thousand requests, and the previous week’s figure was revised up to 248 thousand requests from the original 260 thousand requests.

In four weeks, the average number of requests increased by 4,500 to 252,000.
