US deploys airborne division in Europe

The United States announced the deployment of the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division to Europe as part of strengthening NATO’s eastern flank.

And this division played an active role in the fighting in Europe during World War II.

“After 80 years, the 101st Airborne Division, known as the Roaring Eagles, has returned to Europe,” the US representative to NATO wrote on Twitter.

According to her, about 2,400 US troops will be deployed in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia “to protect the NATO air wing.”

At the end of June, NATO leaders agreed on a plan to significantly increase the Alliance’s forces in Eastern Europe by 2023 against the backdrop of the crisis in Ukraine.

NATO has announced that it plans to increase the strength of its high-readiness force to more than 300,000 on the eastern side in the near future, increase the composition of battle groups to the level of a “brigade”, and establish depots for the preliminary positioning of weapons, equipment and ammunition depots in the region.
