US Central Command Statement on Iranian Missile Seizure in Gulf of Oman

US Central Command (Centcom) announced the involvement of a US destroyer in the process of confiscating a shipment of Iranian missiles in the Gulf of Oman last February.

“On February 25, a US Navy destroyer, supported by the Royal Navy, conducted an intercept operation in the Gulf of Oman,” Central Command said in a statement Thursday.

The statement added that “the operation resulted in the confiscation of Iranian-made surface-to-air missiles and cruise missile engines.”

“This operation demonstrates that we will not allow any irresponsible and aggressive actions by Iran with impunity on land, at sea and in the air. In this effort, we will work in support of and shoulder to shoulder with our partners and allies with whom we have had strategic relationships for decades.”

The Associated Press quoted officials as saying that earlier this year, a British Royal Navy ship seized a sophisticated batch of Iranian missiles in the Gulf of Oman bound for Yemen.
