US attempts to prevent fuel loading ceremony at Akkuyu nuclear plant in Turkey, alleges Russian official

Declaring that their technologies at the Zaporozhye power plant will not be touched, the United States wants to disrupt the fuel loading ceremony for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey, which is being built with Russia’s participation.

This was announced by Rinat Karcha, adviser to the director of the Russian corporation RosenergoAtom, stating that Washington’s actions are nothing more than a new stage of psychological pressure on the staff of the Zaporozhye NPP.

“There is one more moment – it is very important, we are waiting for it on April 27 in Turkey, when nuclear fuel will be delivered (to the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction with Russia’s participation) … Of course, some are trying to spoil this event by playing on our nerves” Karka said.

The adviser stressed that Russia is a very large player in the global nuclear power plant construction market, and US statements about its “technologies” at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant are among the “vulgar American methods of ousting others from the market.”

Earlier, the American television channel CNN reported that it had read a letter from the head of the Department of Nuclear Nonproliferation Policy of the US Department of Energy, Andrea Verkeli, addressed to Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev. The American side stated that the Zaporizhzhya NPP had nuclear technical data of American origin, the export of which is subject to the decision of the US government.

According to the channel, the United States in a message urged Russia not to “harm” these “nuclear technologies.”
