Today, Saturday, two ships of the Sri Lankan Navy left the port of the capital Colombo with unknown people on board amid rumors about the flight of the country’s president.

According to the Sri Lankan news agency Adadirana, “an official at the port of Colombo stated that the group boarded the two Sri Lankan ships Sindurala and Gajabahu and left the port. .”

Today, Saturday, thousands of protesters broke into the capital of Sri Lanka. Instead of the planned peaceful march, the demonstrators broke through the police barriers and seized the presidential palace. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is reported to have been evacuated.

At least 33 people were injured in the protests, including two police officers, according to doctors.

Sri Lanka is experiencing its worst economic crisis since independence in 1948. The coronavirus pandemic has hit the tourism sector, a major source of foreign exchange, leaving Sri Lanka unable to buy enough fuel.

The country lacks food, basic necessities, medicines and gas. Many parts of Sri Lanka are also facing constant power outages due to lack of fuel. At the same time, its external debt is estimated at $51 billion.
