United manager comments on Ronaldo’s angry reaction after substitution against Newcastle

Manchester United’s Dutch coach Eric Ten Hag expressed his understanding of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo’s reaction after he was substituted in a goalless draw against Newcastle in the English Premier League last Sunday.

On Sunday, Ronaldo played his first match as a starter after a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Brentford last August, but Ten Hag knocked him out with 18 minutes to go in an attempt to reach Newcastle’s net.

The Portuguese, who has won the Ballon d’Or five times as the best player in the world, appeared completely upset the moment he left the field, but “I don’t think any player would be happy to leave the field, especially Ronaldo,” according to Ten. Witch on the eve of a very difficult confrontation with Tottenham, scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, at Old Trafford.

“As long as it (the reaction) is natural, calm, there are no problems with this. Of course, he is convinced that he must continue to play and score goals. That’s why he’s so good,” said the Dutch coach.

Some United fans questioned the decision to replace Ronaldo, especially after his replacement, Marcus Rashford, missed a clear header that would have given his team an overtime win.

But Ten Hag believes his team didn’t have to wait until overtime to try to score.

Manchester United are currently fifth in the English Premier League with 16 points, while tomorrow’s rivals Tottenham Hotspur are third with 23 points.
