UN responds to Zelensky’s call to exclude Russia from UN bodies

The United Nations has responded to the call of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to exclude Russia from UN bodies and bodies.

Commenting on the idea of expelling Russia from the UN General Assembly, Polina Kubiak, press secretary of the Chairman of the General Assembly, said that “all decisions on this matter are made through the UN Security Council.”

The Charter of the United Nations states that the exclusion of any Member of the United Nations may be effected by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council.

During a meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine on Tuesday, Zelensky called for Russia to be expelled from the Council and all other UN structures, accusing it of violating the principles and charter of the body.

This is considered impossible, since Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and has the right to veto any decision in it. The Charter of the United Nations can only be changed with the consent of all the members of the Security Council.
