UN calls on Russia and the United States to resolve the issues of the START-3 Treaty

The UN called on Russia and the United States to resolve all issues related to the Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty (START-3), especially issues of inspection of facilities in the two countries.

Commenting on this issue, UN Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said in an interview with RIA Novosti that “because this is the only remaining bilateral agreement in the field of nuclear arms control between the United States and Russia.” The START-3 Treaty is an important element of international peace and security, as well as the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime.

He added: “Both sides must resolve all issues related to inspection capabilities and allow inspectors to return to their work to ensure the implementation of this important agreement.”

On Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it had informed Washington about the temporary withdrawal of its military installations from inspections under the START-3 treaty, since Russia cannot implement similar measures on US soil due to restrictions imposed by Washington.
