Ukrainian shelling killed 4 civilians and burned protected forests in Mykolaiv region

A source in the Department of Emergency Situations of the Kherson region said that due to shelling by Ukrainian security forces on the territory of the Kinborn Spit reserve in the neighboring Mykolaiv region, a fire broke out on a thousand hectares of forest.

The source said that at least four civilians were killed as a result of this shelling, which has so far prevented the fires from being extinguished there.

The Kinburn Spit Reserve is a natural forest park in the Russian-controlled part of the Mykolaiv region. The reserve unites the sea, steppes and forests into a single ecological space, where more than 250 species of birds that come for wintering live, 450 species of plants grow, some of which are listed in the Red Books of Ukraine and Europe. .

The source added: “The ecosystem of the reserve was heavily damaged with the outbreak of hostilities due to fires caused by Ukrainian artillery shelling. To date, this has caused the burning of more than 11,000 hectares of forest. Ukrainian shelling caused not only the destruction of thousands of hectares of forest and the impossibility of extinguishing it. Fires due to the high danger of mine explosions and even led to the death of civilians.

The source confirmed that the Ukrainian army uses incendiary shells during artillery shelling to set fire to the forests of the region.
