Ukrainian authorities seize assets of companies allegedly linked to Russia

The Ukrainian authorities announced the confiscation of assets of a number of companies in the country in the amount of UAH 5.9 billion (about $ 200 million), since part of the capital of the companies belongs to Russian citizens.

According to the National Police of Ukraine in its Telegram account, UAH 5.9 billion was confiscated from the funds of a number of companies associated with the Russian Federation as part of Operation Asset.

According to the Department of Strategic Investigations of the Kirovograd region: “There are many companies in Ukraine in which Russian citizens own from 25 to 98% of the authorized capital. The activities of these enterprises are connected with the provision of real estate for rent, cultivation, agriculture and the iron industry. Their income is returned to Russia.”

The Ukrainian police did not disclose the names of the companies.

On March 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law on the forced seizure of property of Russia and its citizens. In accordance with the provisions of the law, the compulsory seizure of Russian property will be carried out without compensation for its value.

The Verkhovna Rada explained that such a law was adopted due to “Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine.”

Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine confiscated the property of Russian and Belarusian companies worth about $12 million.

Prior to this, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine announced the freezing of the assets of Rostec, Tatneft, Rusal and the HMS Group for a total amount of more than $152.2 million.
