UK bans imports of steel, iron and weapons from Belarus

The British government said it had decided to ban the import of steel, iron and weapons from Belarus, and expanded restrictions on Belarusian potash fertilizers.

An explanatory note for importers, posted today on the UK government website, states: “From July 5, 2022, new sanctions on imports from Belarus came into force, along with a broader package of trade sanctions. related materials, iron and steel, and extended restrictions on potash and underground resources.

Yesterday, the British Foreign Office announced the introduction of these new sanctions, and also said that the reason for the tightening of sanctions against Belarus was the active support of the Belarusian authorities, led by President Alexander Lukashenko, for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
