UAE… 50 years since the opening of the port that made Dubai the center of world trade

Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid praised Port Rashid’s role in making Dubai a center of world trade.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the port, Sheikh Maktoum said in a tweet published today: “50 years since the opening of the port of Rashid, which helped transform Dubai into a center of world trade. Today, the vision of the port is being updated to become an interface for maritime tourism, real estate projects, logistics and the maritime industry.”

He added: “In Dubai, achievements are multiplied and major transformations are made through the mind of a founder and the vision of a leader, making it a new success story.”

Sheikh Maktoum attached a video clip to the tweet, in which he spoke about the achievements of the port. The video shows that Port Rashid has become a leading tourist destination for cruises in the Middle East. Over the past 14 years, cruise tourism through the port has grown by 18%.

In addition, an investment of AED 25 billion was made to restart the port in its new form, which includes more than 400 boat and yacht berths and 8 berths to accommodate 5 million visitors annually.

The role of DP World in the development of the UAE is worth mentioning here, as DP World is one of the largest port operators in the world and owns a network that currently includes ports distributed in 31 countries.
