Today, Sunday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is arriving in Turkey on a two-day official visit.

Earlier, the US State Department said Blinken would visit Turkey to inspect ongoing US efforts to help the Turkish government deal with two devastating earthquakes.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement that Blinken will visit Incirlik Air Base near Adana in southern Turkey on February 19 “to test direct US efforts to assist Turkish authorities in responding to the devastation caused by the February 6 attack.” earthquake”.

He added that Blinken would then travel to the capital Ankara to meet with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu and other officials “to discuss continued American support for Turkey and its people in the wake of the devastating earthquakes, as well as ways to further strengthen the partnership.” with Turkey.”

He indicated that Blinken “will also thank the Turkish government for its support for cross-border assistance to affected areas in Syria.”

Washington announced an $85 million urgent humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria after the earthquakes, in addition to deploying disaster response and rescue teams in Turkey immediately after the earthquake.
