Turkish Presidency: We are negotiating with Israel on the transfer of natural gas to Europe

Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Turkey and Israel are negotiating the transfer of gas to the European Union, and the two countries are due to meet on the issue in October.

In May, Kalin said that gas from the eastern Mediterranean could become an alternative to supplies to the European Union, and that Ankara was ready to become part of this process.

He added: “After the Russo-Ukrainian war, Europe again faced an energy crisis, noting that there were two alternatives: strengthening the TANAP pipeline for Azerbaijani gas coming from the Caspian Sea, and crossing Anatolia to Europe through Turkey.”

He pointed out that the second alternative is East Mediterranean gas from Israel, Lebanon and Egypt, which goes to Europe through Turkey.

He stated that in both cases the energy security of Europe depends on Turkey.
