Turkish Foreign Minister reveals stages and prospects for normalizing relations with Syria

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stressed that the meetings must be held, continued and developed for the success of the process of normalization of relations with Syria.

“If we talk about normalization, then there is no one-time meeting. If a one-time meeting takes place, then no progress will be achieved in any case,” Oglu said.

He added: “As you can see…the level of communication between us (Turkish and Syrian officials) is increasing…In the beginning, the first level was technical meetings, then meetings of the intelligence services, then negotiations on military and security issues, then the political phase, then foreign affairs.. …and after that will there be a higher level meeting in the future or not? What is the purpose of these negotiations? What do we do? What are the expectations? What can we do together in the future?”

It is noteworthy that earlier in Moscow, a meeting was held with Turkish Defense Ministers Hulusi Akar and his Syrian counterpart Ali Mahmoud Abbas, as well as the heads of intelligence of the two countries Hakan Fidan and Ali Mamluk in the presence of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

The Syrian Defense Ministry confirmed that “the two sides discussed several files and the meeting was positive”, noting that all parties stressed the need and importance of continuing the joint dialogue to stabilize the situation in Syria and the region.
