Turkish Fenerbahce punished for chanting Putin’s name

The European Football Association (UEFA) has decided to punish the Turkish club Fenerbahce for chanting the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin during a match against the Ukrainian guest of Kyiv Dynamo in Istanbul.

A video shared on social media shows several Turkish fans chanting the name of the Russian president in response to the Ukrainian first team’s goal against the hosts in a match that brought them together on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, in the second leg. Second round of qualifying for the Champions League group stage.

Kiev “Dynamo” defeated the team of Turkey (2:1) and qualified for the third round of qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League.

The European Football Association (UEFA) imposed a financial penalty of 50 thousand euros on Fenerbahce FC, in addition to the partial closure of its stadiums, according to a statement published by the federation on the official website.
