The Turkish Defense Ministry said its forces neutralized 11 YPG “terrorists” in northern Syria.

In a statement, the ministry said Turkish forces repelled a YPG attack in the Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch areas of northern Syria, which resulted in the death of a Turkish soldier.

The statement added that the soldier was wounded by a live bullet after ISIS struck a military base in the Euphrates Shield region in northern Syria on Friday.

Ankara considers the YPG to be the Syrian branch of the PKK, which operates in several countries, including Iraq and Iran.

Turkish forces, in cooperation with the Syrian National Army, “Syrian armed opposition groups loyal to Ankara,” have carried out several operations in northern Syria against ISIS and the PKK/YPG, which resulted in the return of thousands of Syrians to their lands, according to Turkish Defense.
