Turkish authorities will not allow their interests in the eastern Mediterranean to be ignored

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Tango Bilgechlin confirmed that Ankara will not allow its interests in the eastern Mediterranean to be ignored, and that neither side has the right to explore and produce oil resources on the Turkish shelf without Ankara’s permission.

This was stated by Bilgechlin, commenting on the unilateral measures of the Greek Cypriots in this regard.

He stressed that “Ankara fully supports the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on this issue, which was mentioned yesterday.”

According to Belgechlin, the Greek Cypriot administration ignores the rights of the Turkish Cypriots, who are considered partners in the island’s natural resources.

He warned that unbalanced actions would heighten tensions in the eastern Mediterranean. Noting that “all this threatens peace and stability.”

A spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry concluded that “Turkey will continue to vigorously defend its rights and those of the Turkish Cypriots in the eastern Mediterranean, as well as support the oil exploration efforts that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will carry out in the coming period.”
