The Tunisian Etoile du Sahel announced on Monday evening the resignation of the club’s president, Maher Karoui, with immediate effect.
Club president Maher Karoui has resigned after being attacked by fans over a deteriorating performance in the Tunisian Premier League.
This evening and this evening, the training sessions of the Etoile du Sahel were suspended due to the reaction of the protesting fans to the results of the team.
The anger of some of the star’s fans reached the point of viciously attacking players and even officials, leading to the decision of the star’s president, Maher Al-Qarawi, to step down along with his deputy, Tawfiq Al-Zahrouni.
Etoile du Sahel was eliminated from the first round of the cup and their chances of winning the championship were reduced, leaving the team only to fight for third place, which would qualify them for the next season’s African Confederation Cup.
It is worth noting that Etoile is in fifth and penultimate place with 11 points, nine points behind leaders Esperance Sportive and seven points behind runner-up Union Monastir, two rounds before the end of the final stage of the Tunisian League.
