Former US President Donald Trump called for a ban on the participation of transgender people in women’s sports during a speech at the First American Policy Institute Forum in Washington.
Trump said the numbers for transgender people are much higher than for women.
Trump concluded that “this case is disrespectful to women,” and his proposal was supported by thunderous applause in the audience.
Earlier, British Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sports Nadine Doris also called for the removal of transgender athletes from participation in women’s tournaments.
“We can’t pretend that sex doesn’t affect performance in sports,” she said.
On June 19, it became known that FIFA plans to remove the testosterone threshold, which will facilitate the participation of transgender athletes in women’s tournaments.
The Women’s Football Modernization Project provides for the participation of all female athletes in self-determination competitions.
