Former journalist E. Jane Carroll, who is to be paid $5 million by former U.S. President Donald Trump to accuse him of sexually harassing her, with additional damage after another slander against her.
And the day after he was unanimously verdicted by a nine-citizen jury on May 9, Trump, the candidate in the 2024 presidential election, once again said of Carroll: “She’s crazy.”
Trump reiterated to the crowd during a CNN-sponsored meeting his claim that he did not know the former Elle writer, once again criticizing a “completely fabricated story.”
In response, Carroll’s lawyers have filed an amended libel complaint she filed against him in 2019, which is still pending, unlike the complaint that was decided on May 9.
Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said Trump’s statements “after the ruling show the depth of his hatred for Carroll”, noting that the latter is seeking “very large punitive damages … to punish Trump, deter him from further smearing and deter others from the same.”
