Trial begins over leaked photos of Kobe Bryant helicopter crash

On Wednesday, the widow of American basketball legend Kobe Bryant filed a lawsuit in the United States over photographs taken by paramedics at the scene of the helicopter crash that claimed his life.

The Los Angeles Lakers star and his teenage daughter were among nine people killed when their helicopter crashed into a hill near Los Angeles in January 2020.

Vanessa Bryant said she was emotionally stressed when LAPD and firefighters took photos of the site, which they later shared with friends and first responders.

“At least 11 police officers and dozens of firefighters shared photos within 24 hours of the crash,” Bryant’s lawyers wrote in court documents.

They continued, “In the following weeks, the deputy (police mayor) showed photos of the remains in a bar, sent another photo to a group of his video game buddies, and the (fire department) staff showed the photos at an awards ceremony. .”

While Los Angeles County Attorneys do not claim the photos were actually taken, they insist they were never made public and have been removed.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Bryant became the face of his sport during his two decades with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kobe became a five-time NBA champion in a career that began in 1996 right out of high school and continued until his retirement in 2016, after which he ventured into several lucrative fields.

He also won the Olympic gold medal twice, helping Team USA win the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London.
