The White House commented on Erdogan’s plans to visit Russia

Commenting on the forthcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Russia, the White House said it would give the Turkish President an opportunity to explain the reasons for his visit.

“Turkey has a bilateral relationship with Russia and has been involved in working with Russia to establish a Joint Coordination Center (on Ukrainian grain exports),” John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the US National Security Council, said during a news conference on Tuesday.

He continued, “I’m convinced they have a lot to offer. We are always in contact with Turkey on many issues, including the fight against terrorism in Syria, NATO, and events in Ukraine.”

He added: “And we will develop relations with Turkey. I think it’s better to let Erdogan talk about the reasons for his visit.”

Notably, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to visit Russia on August 5, when he is expected to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the Russian city of Sochi.
