Until now, the Gmail app on foldable phones looked stretched out like on regular phones. Users with foldable phones with book-style phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will now see a 2-pane layout for Gmail thanks to Google’s user interface redesign. Meet and Talk also offers the 2-pane view.

This means the inbox will appear on the foldable screen’s left side, while an opened email will appear on its right. From a multitasking standpoint, this makes it reasonable and will reduce the amount of back and forth when looking through emails.

Above the inbox is a search bar, and the first part of the screen has a compose button. The bottom bar fills the entire screen’s width. On tablets, on the other hand, you see a vertical navigation rail. Little details like this contribute to giving foldable handsets a unique identity.

Google has recently intensified its attention on foldable tablets and phones. To enhance the software experience on devices with large screens, the company released its tablet-first OS, Android 12L, in late 2021.

It features minor adjustments and optimizations that make better use of larger screens, like a taskbar that enables users to start apps and a notification shade that is divided vertically rapidly.

Google was only interested in tablets briefly. The fact that the corporation is developing a tablet and likely a foldable phone is one of the main factors in the current change.
