Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Financial Times that the Chinese military has become more willing to intercept US ships in the air and at sea.
. added Milli “The number of maritime and air interceptions carried out by China has increased dramatically over the past five years.”
Milley noted that the Chinese military has become “significantly more aggressive in this particular region,” but did not elaborate on the number of incidents he was talking about.
Milley noted that he discussed unsafe intercepts in a telephone conversation with his counterpart in Beijing, General Li Zuocheng, who in turn warned Washington not to engage in “provocations.”
