The US Congress suspects Zelensky’s chief of staff of links with the Kremlin

Republican Congresswoman Victoria Spartz sent a request to President Joe Biden to disclose the results of a background check on Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, because of his possible “ties” to Russia.

“Based on various intelligence reports, actions taken by Mr. Yermak in Ukraine, and his alleged ties to Russia, Congress urgently needs this information in order to confirm or deny various serious allegations,” according to a press release on the Congress website.

Spartz stressed that, given the material involvement of the United States in the Ukrainian crisis, Congress should be held accountable to the Americans for helping Kyiv.

The congresswoman touched upon the appointment of Yermak Oleg Tatarov as her deputy for the fight against corruption. According to Spartz, the latter has been preventing the work of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office for more than a year.

The parliamentarian drew attention to the fact that Tatarov himself, before being appointed to this position, was under investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, and also held a high position in the police under former President Viktor Yanukovych.
