The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning the Donbass referendum on joining Russia.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning the referendums on joining Russia, which were held in the republics of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.

143 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 35 countries abstained. Five countries opposed the resolution: Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Nicaragua.

The resolution provides for the non-recognition of “changes in the status of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine” and their accession to Russia based on the results of the referendums held in them.

The resolution affirms “the maintenance of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”

The resolution condemns “the organization of referendums by Moscow and attempts at annexation” of the regions.
