A source in the security service of the Donetsk Republic said that a Swedish citizen who surrendered at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol denies participation in hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian security forces.
“Al-Suwaydi stated during interrogation that he did not shoot and did not participate in hostilities,” a TASS source quotes.
Earlier, the media reported on the initiation of a criminal case against a Swedish citizen accused of participating in hostilities under Article 430 of the Criminal Code of the DPR (“mercenaries”).
Fighting for control of Mariupol began on 25 February. On May 20, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that Russian troops had completely liberated the land of the Azovstal plant located in the city.
