The Russian Foreign Ministry calls on all countries to sign the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty

Russia welcomed Dominica’s accession to the Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and invited all states that had not signed the treaty to join it.

“The Commonwealth of Dominica has acceded to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, becoming the 173rd state to ratify it,” reads a message posted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

It is worth noting that this ratification set the course for the universalization of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in Latin America and the Caribbean, since all 33 countries of the region have acceded to the treaty.

“Russia welcomes this step aimed at the early entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty,” the ministry added.

The State Department concluded that “in reaffirming our unwavering commitment to the Treaty, we urge all countries that have not immediately signed and ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty to do so.”

Russia ratified the Treaty in 2000 and since then has been observing its provisions, actively participating in the work of the Preparatory Committee of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization.
