The Pentagon has announced a new $460 million military aid package for Ukraine that will include air surveillance radars, Javelin anti-tank missile systems and HIMARS missile launchers.
“Today, the Department of Defense announces military assistance to meet Ukraine’s urgent defense needs,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
The statement said: “This is the thirty-second seizure from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s warehouses since August 2021, and it amounts to about $460 million. The new aid package includes more ammunition for HIMARS missile and artillery systems, provided US howitzers, as well as Javelin anti-tank missiles and surveillance radars.
According to the statement, the aid package also includes 155mm artillery shells, 120mm mortar shells, about 2,000 anti-tank missiles, 4 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, spare parts and other equipment.
US President Joe Biden arrived in Kiev today, Monday, for a surprise visit during which he met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and announced additional military and financial aid packages for Kyiv.
Earlier today, the White House announced that Biden had pledged a new $500 million military aid package to Ukraine, to be announced in the coming days.
He added: “In joint statements by Biden and Zelensky, Biden announced an additional half-billion dollar aid package to Ukraine and confirmed that the details of this package will be revealed in the coming days.”
“The assistance will also include artillery ammunition, anti-tank systems and air surveillance radars,” Biden said, noting that he had discussed with Zelenskiy Washington’s support and commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Today I am in Kyiv to meet with President Zelensky and reaffirm our strong and unwavering commitment to democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Biden said.
Biden also announced that Ukraine will receive billions of dollars in support of its budget, explaining that “with the support of the Democratic and Republican parties in Congress, this week we will provide billions of dollars in direct assistance to the budget of Ukraine, as the Ukrainian government can use it to provide basic services to the population,” adding that the United States will support Ukraine no matter what. It was worth it, arguing that “Kyiv is sacrificing and paying a very high price.”
Earlier, Russia sent a memorandum to NATO countries on the supply of weapons to Ukraine, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that any supply of weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
Ukraine has received massive financial and military assistance from Western countries led by the United States and other European countries since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russia has no plans to occupy Ukrainian lands. He explained that Russia’s goal is to protect people who have been persecuted and genocide by the Kyiv regime over the past 8 years.
